How it works
HSV describes a color by its hue around the wheel, its saturation, and its value, which is how bright the strongest channel is. Red 255, 0, 0 has hue 0, saturation 100% and value 100%, since its brightest channel is fully on. Drag the sliders to see how each RGB change moves the value and saturation.

FAQ
What do hue, saturation and value mean?
Hue is the color around the wheel, saturation is how much white is mixed out of it, and value is how bright its strongest channel is, from black at 0% to full brightness at 100%.
Why does 0% value always give black?
Value 0% means the brightest channel is off, so no light comes out at all. The result is black whatever the hue and saturation.
When would I use HSV instead of HSL?
HSV fits color pickers, since dragging value down feels like dimming a light. HSL fits CSS work, since lightness runs evenly from black through the color to white.
