Pythagoras Calculator

Find a missing side of a right triangle. a squared plus b squared equals c squared.

Enter two sides.

How it works

In a right triangle, the two short sides are a and b, and the long side across from the right angle is c. The rule is a squared plus b squared equals c squared. The diagram draws squares on each side, so you can see why the two small squares add up to the big one. In angle mode, type an angle and a distance along the ground (like standing 20 metres from a tree and looking up at 30 degrees) to find its height, or type a height to find how far away you are.
